Saracen is committed to conducting its business in an environmentally responsible manner.
This is reinforced through Saracen’s Environmental Policy and the implementation of our Environmental Management System (EMS). There are 10 key areas requiring management including biodiversity, environmental compliance, emissions, exploration, fire, heritage protection, hydrocarbons and hazardous materials, water (surface and ground), and waste. Each key area has its own Environmental Management Plan which explains the related risks, hazards and impacts and outlines how these will be managed.
The EMS is structured in line with ISO14001, and has been established using a risk based approach and is supported by environmental standards, work instructions and training.
Each year we comply with the Commonwealth National Pollution Inventory (NPI) and National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) requirements as well as our obligations under state based environmental licences for mining. Saracen continues to evaluate its environmental performance on an on-going basis and will continue to target proactive achievement of positive environmental outcomes.
Saracen also records a rehabilitation programme in its statutory accounts to ensure we are well resourced to rehabilitate those areas the company has disturbed when we have completed operations.
