Deep South

Deep South is located approximately 80 km North of the Carosue Dam processing plant and is accessible via the Safari Bore haul road. The open pit reserve statement for Deep South is 29koz at 3.6g/t. Underground resources at Deep South and the adjacent Mexico deposit are in the order of 1.1Mt at 4.5g/t. Saracen plans to evaluate the potential of an underground mine at Deep South in FY12.

An open pit was mined at Deep South in 2004 by Sons of Gwalia and produced a little over 300kt of ore at a grade of 2.6g/t for 25koz. Saracen plans to mine a cutback around this pit in the current life of mine plan.

The majority of the infrastructure is still in place at Safari Bore and Deep South following a hiatus in mining for six years, these include a 3-bay workshop, crib room, communications tower, dewatering bores, dewatering pipeline and all associated haul roads and access tracks.
