Deep South is located approximately 80 km North of the Carosue Dam processing plant and is accessible via the Safari Bore haul road. The open pittable reserve statement for Deep South is 29,000 ounces at 3.6g/t. Underground resources at Deep South and the nearby Mexico deposit are in the order of 768,000 tonnes at 5.0g/t. Saracen plans to evaluate the potential of an underground mine at Deep South after the development of the open pit operation in 2010/11.
The majority of the infrastructure is still in place at Safari Bore and Deep South including a 3-bay workshop, crib room, communications tower, dewatering bores, dewatering pipeline and all associated haulroads and access tracks.
